About Eight by Zero

We are the data middleware layer for insurance. We sit between employers, HR systems, and group insurance carriers, moving data reliably and securely between them. Think Workday, ADP, and UKG on one side, and large carriers on the other. We automate work that today is done manually, in spreadsheets, or not at all.

Seed-stage and backed by strategic investors across the carrier and reinsurance space. We emerged from Diagram, the leading insurtech venture studio in North America.

The role

Full-stack. You will work directly with the three founders on a small team. The scope is broad: backend, frontend, and the cloud infrastructure that runs them. The patterns you set today will become how the whole company works as we scale.

We are an AI-first company in two ways: we use tools like Claude Code as part of how we build every day, and we ship AI capabilities as part of the product itself. Fluency with these tools is part of the job.

What you will own

• Designing clean, durable integrations against third-party enterprise APIs, and making them reusable, observable, and recoverable
• Building and operating backend services in NestJS, with correctness and observability as core requirements
• Shipping React applications where loading states, error handling, and perceived performance matter
• Working in Google Cloud, with infrastructure managed in Terraform
• Writing TypeScript on both the server and the browser, with tests as part of the feature

What we look for

Strong fundamentals in TypeScript, backend services, and React. Experience with relational databases. A track record of shipping production software where correctness mattered. Comfort with cloud infrastructure, or the drive to get there quickly.

Bonus: experience in insurance, benefits, fintech, or integrations against enterprise HR systems.
